Privacy Policy
This policy describes how Synthdrop ("the Service") handles information.

Operator

No accounts
The Service has no sign-in. We never collect personally identifying information such as names, email addresses or dates of birth from visitors.
Access logs
Our hosting provider (Google Cloud Platform) records access logs including IP address, user agent, referrer and timestamp. These are used solely for troubleshooting and detecting abuse. No advertising is served.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand which pages are being read and how often. It uses no cookies, no localStorage and no other client-side storage, and it does not fingerprint individuals via IP address or user agent. Only aggregate statistics such as per-page view counts and load performance are collected; no personally identifying information is gathered. Error monitoring
We use Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) to detect and fix defects in the Service. Only when an error occurs in your browser do we send the error message and stack trace, the URL of the page it happened on, your browser type and version, and a short trail of the actions immediately before it (elements clicked and pages navigated). Nothing is sent during ordinary browsing. It uses no cookies, no localStorage and no other client-side storage, and IP addresses are configured not to be stored. Cookies
A single cookie (synthdrop.locale) stores your language preference. No cookies are used for analytics, error monitoring, tracking or advertising. Deleting it does not prevent you from using the Service.
Use of YouTube API Services
The Service uses YouTube API Services to retrieve information about publicly available videos on YouTube. By using the Service you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. For how Google handles information, please see the Google Privacy Policy.
Information we retrieve and store
We retrieve video titles, descriptions, thumbnails, publish dates, durations, view counts, like counts and comment counts, along with channel names, channel IDs, channel avatar images, channel handles (names beginning with @), channel descriptions and subscriber counts. All of this is publicly available on YouTube; we do not retrieve private data or information about individual viewers. We do not retrieve subscriber counts for channels that have chosen to hide them.
Retention
Metadata such as titles, descriptions, channel names and channel avatar images is refreshed or deleted within 30 days of retrieval. When a video is no longer public on YouTube (deleted or made private), we hide it from Synthdrop as soon as we detect this and delete our records of it within the following 20 days. Statistics such as view counts are likewise not kept for longer than 30 days at present. Only if we are granted approval through the YouTube API Services audit will we extend that retention to a maximum of 36 months so that history can be charted.
Metrics calculated by the Service
The trending score, genres and tags are calculated or inferred by the Service and are not provided by YouTube. Because they are produced automatically, they may be inaccurate.
How we use information
Visitor information (access logs, analytics, error monitoring and the cookie) is used only for the purposes stated in the sections above: troubleshooting and detecting abuse, understanding which pages are read, fixing defects, and remembering your language preference. It is not processed for any other purpose. Information obtained through YouTube API Services is used only to display new releases, search results, the daily ranking and channel pages on the Service, to calculate the trending score and record rankings, and to automatically classify genres, tags, whether a video is included, and the language of the lyrics.
Who we share information with
We share the information above with the following external parties, in each case only to the extent needed to operate the Service. Google Cloud Platform (hosting of our servers and database; everything the Service stores). Cloudflare (analytics; aggregate per-page statistics only). Sentry (error monitoring; only the information sent when an error occurs). Google's Gemini API (for automated classification we send video titles, descriptions, channel names and durations, and for generating the daily comment on the home page we send the titles, channel names and statistics such as view counts of the top-ranked songs; no visitor information is sent). YouTube (when you play a video, the embedded player connects directly from your browser to YouTube; the Google Privacy Policy applies to that connection). Internally, only Argon Inc. staff who operate the Service access this information, and only as needed for that work. We never sell information, never provide it to third parties for advertising, and never share it with anyone not listed here.
Requesting deletion
If you would like information about your channel or videos removed, please contact us at the address below and include the URL of the video or channel concerned. To confirm that the request comes from the owner, we ask that you write from the email address associated with that channel (if we cannot confirm this, we may ask you to verify ownership in a way that is visible on the channel itself). Within 30 days of receiving your request we will delete the corresponding song pages, statistics and ranking records. So that the same content is not collected again, we keep only the video or channel ID and the date the request was received; we do not keep your name, your email address or the text of your message.

Any change takes effect when it is posted on this page.
