【Sweet ANN】The Medical Anomaly【VOCALOID Cover】

Original/Vocal midi: R.I.P Tuning/Art/Video: Me Happy birthday to Sweet Ann! I picked up the PowerFX Vocaloids a while ago 'cause I was worried about how long I'd have to pick up Ann and Al in particular, but this is my first time really using Ann! And drawing her. This entire video was a lesson in drawing... side/profile view... expressions... medical stuff... lipstick... all things I don't draw a whole lot. I'm proud of how it came out in the end, though. EDIT- Here's a link to my edited VSQx, if anyone is having trouble working with the plain midi: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AvkcX0x7qz1LgZcd2G0pjsp9-ABtaQ?e=IyYZNg The lyrics/phonemes are specifically made for English Vocaloids (and Sweet Ann in particular- sometimes with these older Engloids you really have to mess with the sounds!), and it has my tuning but it should be relatively easy to edit if you want to change the phonemes and tuning yourself :) Please please credit R.I.P for the vocal midi though, I didn't do that myself! And if they want me to take this one down I'll be happy to. ^^ (This part's gonna be kinda personal about my relationship with this song, so feel free to skip!) A year ago today, my stepfather passed away from diabetes complications. He's always been in poor health, and things just seem to have kept adding up for him: type one diabetes being the main thing, but he also had a messed-up back, smoker lungs, all sorts of pains. He was always getting hurt, too, hitting his head and stuff. In a way, I'm glad the pain ended for him, but I still miss him dearly. I was at work, four hours away, when I got the call from my mom that my stepdad was in the hospital with a blood sugar level of over 1600. (For those who don't know, normal levels are 90-120ish.) This had happened once before and he went into a coma - something that definitely should have killed him, and he came out of it. But this time, it was over. I couldn't drive there fast enough to see him, even if I had left right that second. He was supposed to come up and visit me for the 4th of July weekend. My stepdad was a great man, and in a lot of ways, more of a father to me than even my biological dad could be sometimes. He always loved my Vocaloid work, attended my concerts in college, and supported me wholeheartedly when I came out as trans. He treated me like a son, as soon as he found out I was not a daughter. In fact, you may have noticed the gap in my uploading schedule: for over a year, I hadn't done anything synth related. After he died, I made a renewed promise to myself that I would continue working on this art, that he and I loved. That's when I made the Connecting video - I didn't say it in the description then, because honestly I've had a hard time processing everything. But that song was in honor of him, too. I wasn't actually thinking about it, when I decided to make this cover with Sweet Ann. It's her birthday today, and I was looking for a song to do, and with her whole "monster" aesthetic I thought she fit this song well. It was after I decided that I realized that this song's lyrics fit so well with my stepdad. Constantly suffering physical ailments, and he really hated going to the hospital even though he had to so frequently. In some ways, it reminds me of so many other people I know who suffer with physical ailments: my mom and my boyfriend, to name a couple. And, as the original song description says, it resonates with mental illness too, something I've struggled with for a long time and am only really now beginning to understand. So... this is my gift, to you, to him, to everyone else out there that's suffered like this. I haven't really talked about this publicly, or to my family, but I'm going home to spend time with my mom for the one-year anniversary of his death, so... now's as good a time as any, right?
