Andromeda and I started cranking out demo after demo. I knew I wanted to aim for a Country Metal hybrid. We brainstormed ideas like her being a train robber. When the design was revealed, we wanted to do something more light-hearted. So Ain't No Aesop was born. Z: When Andromeda set-up the word cloud to get ideas for building the song, the phrase that stood out to me was "Knee high to a grasshopper" and that’s where the chorus melody comes from. For the full song, I aimed more for a loose swing feel. Z: The joke name for this song was “Jovie Butt Rock, But Swing.” We also used Solaria as a placeholder until I got the code for Jovie. Hearing the song go from a comparatively more urban style to Jovie’s twang was cool af. Z: We wrote this song in under 3 weeks. Which means this is the fastest Zynthesiren song we have written and released so far. Z: Theodor from Slaughtered Studio was busy with some other songs, so we needed this one mixed FAST! Andromeda mentioned that Delicious Morsels was offering mixing and mastering services, so I shot him a DM and he was on-board! He nailed the first mix in just 2 days, and the quality is very on-par with Theodor. So I highly recommend Morsels if you want a good rock and metal mix. Z: We added a little Yu-Gi-Oh reference in the lyrics and Morsels caught it instantly. Did you? AB: How exciting it was that Zynthesiren got an early copy of JOVIE! Because Zynthesiren and I are insane people, we wanted to make an original song! There were a lot of ideas that we threw into brainstorming for this song. Country tropes, western tropes, phrases, inspiration from other songs. Zynthesiren latched onto the phrase, “knee-high to a grasshopper,” as in, being very young and small and naive. AB: After fixating on the phrase “knee-high to a grasshopper,” quick research led to the Aesop fable of The Grasshopper and the Ant, telling the tale of the industrious ant who works all year to save up food for the winter, and the foolish grasshopper who would rather spend his summer dancing. We took that idea and turned it on its ear, making the narrative about someone who sees no value in what the narrator does, thinking they are more foolish and naive than the grasshopper in the tale. The title, “Ain’t No Aesop” suggests that the one who is so judgemental attempts to position themself as an Aesop figure, but is susceptible to ignorance and foolishness themself. AB: I had so many episodes of Game Changer on in the background while I rushed to complete the art for this song. If no one got me I know Sam Reich and Dropout got me. AB: Shout-out to hp heisler who also wrote an original track as part of the pre-release program with JOVIE! “Pilot Light” is an excellent song!
