Moving on. No, literally, that’s what the song is about. The inspiration for this song was my hair. Sometimes, I get the intense urge to cut it even though I have grown it out for years, and cutting it is easier than taking care of it. But doesn’t that apply to people too? Yes? No? Aren’t some relationships just too draining that you would rather cut people off? The song doesn’t give you a clear answer, but it was a fun metaphor to explore without taking sides. The metaphor becomes more “on the nose” as the song progresses, “those memories aren’t going to prevent me from pursuing a clearer road”. Oh! Mm, this isn’t about hair, is it? I wish I could know what it feels like to listen to this song for the first time, but I will never know, since I made it. FL Studio says 18 hours and 38 minutes. That being said, I added a few details for internal consistency. The most obvious: At the end of “The Boy in The Ocean” KAITO says “my longing isn’t resentment”, Miku opens the following song with “my longing for you is turning into resentment”. In “Resent-ment”, Miku sings “Like a night sky with no moon”, which is referenced by Fuiro later, “I scanned the sky for the moon”. Fuiro opens “My Driver Can’t Drive, My Lover Can’t Love” with an audible breath, like how she ended her part in the last song before revealing that it was a dream. “My face is covered in smoke now” and “I didn’t expect a cigar?” are also both intentional references. Headcanon! Fuiro hates smoke, loves the moon, and loves me the most! The melody at the beginning of “The Girl on The Moon” is present in every song (in the appropriate key, I made a video showcasing this here:) except the last song, “Tangled Hair”, to amplify the theme of moving on. 42 Heartbreaks has the “Moon girl melody”, but it doesn’t mention the moon at all. Every other song before that mentions the moon in one way or another, that’s because moving on comes in stages, 42 Heartbreaks was ready to let the moon go, but not its melody yet. Not until “Tangled Hair”. The entire album took around 113 hours of work in total. Lyrics: Oh, no! My hair is all tangled up Guess I better cut it! What? I am not letting you cut that We can fix it! That's a pretty big knot, though My hair's a mess, tangled up and wild! I see the scissors in your hand, but I can smell your fear You don't want to cut your hair, do you? It is easier to cut tangled hair!! I just have to snip snip snip, release the weight! Cut it off, let the past go Finding freedom in each strand left behind But is it worth cutting tangled hair? Doesn't the wind feel amazing running through? Doesn't it complement that dress too well? Why leave strands behind? Because It is easier to cut tangled hair!!
