I had one demo that was a bit more Power metal, and another that was similar to Ragebait with a quirky pop punk vibe. This demo won out in the Gumaina discord server. I think this song was a better choice since I was aiming for a good first impression, if someone were to discover me through the compilation album. - Would you believe that the lyrics of this song is partially inspired by the twitter post “guy with a neuralink cut me off in traffic so I took out my flipper zero and made him gender dysphoric” by serialswaghaver? Well that’s partially true in some lines, but that’s not what the song is about. I went with a “virus destroying your composer and your life” theme due to my own fears and experience with viruses. It’s kind of terrifying to know that computers have become a big important part of our life. If my phone or pc died, then all of my login info and personal details could be lost forever. So that sparked the idea of this song where a simple virus deleting everything could be the end of your life. - Thanks to this song, I learned that I’ve been spelling mezmerize wrong my whole life... Thanks System of a Down! But here’s the funny thing: In SynthV, if you write Mesmerise correctly in the notes, they will pronounce it wrong. But if you use the SOAD misspelling, they will pronounce it correctly. - Speaking of SOAD, this was also an intensional reference since Gumi also says Hypnotize afterwards, referencing both albums by the band. - This is my first Gumi song, but it’s not the first time she has been used in my music. She does have a little voice cameo in “Everybody Lies on my Birthday feat. Teto.” - GUMI CAN GROWL??? Yes and it’s all thanks to Ron, a.k.a. YaBoyHaunter, who showed me a VST plugin called VoiceDrive. An abandonware plugin that turns the voice into a growl. Mixing the voice with some Distortion and EQ gave this nasty performance that sounded much better than all of the growl plugins scripts. Don’t be surprised if I start writing heavier music with this kind of Ustu-P style growling. - Gumi’s outfit came from me telling Asha_Bidar__ to make her a horror cyberpunk demon with 6 arms, and I included some reference images of viruses. My favorite detail is the necklace, which is based on a Bacteriophage. I also went all out on using green for the main color scheme. Both as a reference to the matrix and Gumi’s green theme. Also, Asha was a champion for doing one extra artwork for the verses in just a few days before the deadline! - Just like “Archive of our Own” had scrapped ideas from a “Confession of a Rotten Girl” cover, this one also has those scrapped ideas from the same cover. I reworked the bridge of Rotten Girl into a more metal breakdown with new chords, but I ended up using them here instead.
