CW: Suicidal ideation, implied blood, and other slightly disturbing imagery are described. I started this song as early as February, and I knew it had to be the closing song from the beginning. I wrote the lyrics during a time when I would go on a lot of walks at night, wondering if the stars above my head were dead or alive. Reflecting on my personal relationships in the cold weather, I would go on quests to take pictures of the sky and think about humanity's place in the universe. This song reads like an existential monologue, caught between despair and a strange kind of acceptance. The recurring image of the dead stars is central to my idea and experience. To me, I couldn't stop thinking about their beauty that persists despite the source being gone, just like love, memory, and even life itself. This is the main idea: I want to find meaning in something that is destined to vanish. Just like the first song of the album, I echo the idea of feeling small and insignificant. I evoke a sense of cosmic nihilism, but I try my best not to stop at despair. “I abandoned all hope, yet I don’t want to die.” “Does that mean nothing to you?” The choruses and their mention of “dancing” with entropy, death, and inevitability suggest not just surrender but a twisted intimacy with destruction. In a sense, one is tempted to embrace the very forces that erase meaning. This song shares the theme of inevitability with “Combustion” and the cosmic nihilism of “Stardust”. At the same time, even in a universe destined for heat death, what hurts most is the absence of understanding. The song ends in the same unresolved question: “Shall we dance after all?”. I know entropy and insignificance are inescapable, but there remains a fragile, almost rebellious insistence on living through them, even if it means clinging to the fleeting glow of dead stars.
