I love Mizuki. I really hope I'll express this properly, but I love how NAKISO conveyed the horrible feelings one would feel as an AMAB person who presents as female in a society that doesn't look kindly on such folks. I can see it in this song: the frequency and types of stares one receives, the terror of those you care for finding out because--even if people seem progressive or are close companions--that doesn't mean that they won't see you as "monstrous", the agony of this all being part of your reality when all that is different about you is that you were born with a gender identity that doesn't match your biological sex.... "To put an end to the punishment of having been born, stop breathing." Like, wow. The feeling of total rejection by others who refuse to understand you is conveyed so painfully/succinctly/clearly even to someone like me, whose biological sex/gender identity match. I'll cap these thoughts here with a quote from NAKISO about the song: "I think there are some realities that we simply have no control over. Ones that simply "can't be helped." Please be prepared for them." This is my most ambitious, finished project to date! This was supposed to be a quick, small side project.... that turned into something that probably has 80-100 hours of work into it. Procreate clocked 57ish hours of just pen-to-tablet drawing time, and I was being very finicky about the video editing and spent a few evenings doing that. It's a godsend that VOCALOID ALL ⭐️ STARS's original MEIKO/KAITO duet VSQx was STELLAR and translated super smoothly to Luka's voicebank. Even with crediting them everywhere I possibly can, I still feel guilty that I had to put only like an hour or two into tuning. On a similar note, I aspire to become an arranger like Watchme iD; their arrangement was the inspiration to make this cover. I love orchestral/cinematic arrangements, and theirs made me so emotional when I listened to it. With those emotions plus how the associated ProSeka Mizuki event made me feel, I immediately was like "I MUST MAKE A LUKA COVER." I've never aspired to make a proper MV since it seemed like such an insurmountable task, but my recent foray into tuning has made me more confident that these ideas that I want to execute are within reach as long as I am patient and put in the necessary effort..... and also if I have a really good original MV to base the animations off of O.O!!!! Procreate has been such a huge boon for me. Microsoft Clipchamp as well.... but only because I love the UI and workflow. Videos like these aren't really suitable for Clipchamp...at least, not on my Microsoft Surface. It was CHUGGING by the end of editing, and I even separated the video editing into one file, exported it, then loaded that exported video into another Clipchamp file to add the lyrics!!! I need a computer. I had so much more to say about making this, but I am tired/nearing the word cap/too excited to just get it uploaded to say much more here. I hope people get enjoyment out of this (especially the Megurine Luka and Akiyama Mizuki fans), and please look forward to my future projects! I'm going to post an annotated timelapse of the making of this video's art at some point soon. Hopefully my doing so will serve as a sort of journal entry for me to refer to the next time I intend to render something this detailed.
