Akin to wanting to see a bird fly high and gracefully, but one routinely clips their wings and keeps it in cages. They fail to recognize in their distorted view of reality that it is that wing clipping and caging which prevents the bird from soaring, and blame the bird for their failure to fly. When the bird is able to find its freedom, it recognizes that once it allows its feathers to grow, it can fly like it is destined to. AB: One of the (painful) inspiration points behind this song is a time as a child in which my mother told me that if I ever dared become an unholy goth, she would lock me in a church until I learned better. (lol) AB: When AUDIOLOGIE announced the contest, both Z and I wanted to absolutely enter and try working with a voicebank different from their usual rotation. It was difficult to settle on how the song should take shape at first (an earlier attempt at writing involves inspiration from the movie Obsession), but once I wrote the line "Count my sins, and cast your stones," Z latched onto it and made a hook onto which we built the whole song. AB: I wanted to invoke inspiration from Dante's Inferno a bit, and Dante's journey from Inferno to Paradise. This was the justification behind making a few lines in verse two in Italian, but flipping the idea by putting the expectation of Paradise first, instead resulting in the feeling of Inferno. AB: There is Catholic aesthetic inspiration in this song, like bands I adore such as Ghost and Powerwolf. I, however, was raised protestant. Z: I had zero ideas for what I wanted to do for the AOFEST2026 because their voicebanks are a bit difficult to get around for metal. With Anri Arcane, I felt that her softer voice sounded the best, so a lot of the song was written to utilize her whisper vocal mode. Andromeda recommended me a few songs from Angtoria and Ghost as inspiration. We settled on a mix of Goth Rock, Arena Rock, and a bit of Symphonic Rock for our entry. Z: I usually don't like to do drastic changes to my choruses outside of a simple key change. For this song, it felt right going slower and with a more dramatic sound. So the final chorus is layered with vocals after vocals to get that massive choir effect. Z: As I was writing the guitar solo, I added a demo of this song in the Gumania discord server and Delicious Morsel asked where this song fits in the Killing Angels timeline. This funny exchange led me to reference the Killing Angels melody in the second part of the guitar solo.
