Nurture is my favourite album of all time, it has so much personal significance to me and is one of the most influential works in my life. Last year, I was invited to take part in a large 5th Anniversary fan-remix album paying tribute to the album, and I had wanted to cover Something Comforting. This song is not only my favourite song on the album, but possibly my favourite song of all time, there's so much in the composition, the production, the lyrics that just speaks so closely to my heart and it never ceases to make me emotional. You can check out the rest of the remix project here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucPRZkw-yZ0 I wanted to create a self-indulgent remix that combined so many of my favourite things; Porter Robinson, VGM, 2012-era Vocaloid music, and so on. With an arrangement and tuning style largely inspired by kz(livetune), I thought bringing in Miku for the vocals would've been appropriate given how much Porter himself has worked with Vocaloid, and been a fan OF Vocaloid as a culture and a movement. The remix brings it up a half-step and re-envisions it to embody a warmer, more 'reflective' take on the album as a whole. I had the idea of using the lyrics from Galileo Galilei's own JP cover of this song as the basis for the remix, not only is that version gorgeous in its own right with its own unique melodic changes and a few sections, but Galileo Galilei is one of my favourite bands! I couldn't believe I got to see both them and Porter performing during the Nurture tour in spring 2025! Happy 5th Anniversary to Nurture, and I hope you enjoy.
