Original song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbiMe64zeGM Instrumental: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yqR07ud29I Translation reference: Guoyo San (commenter on the video the "Original song" link directs to) Tools used: Vocals: Eleanor Forte Lite Mixing: Reaper Art: Krita Vid: Blender, Vegas Pro 14.0 ive never actually watched the cdrama ashes of love, the reason i made this is bc i heard a cover of this song using Dong Fang Zhi Zi and i was HOOKED the dong fang zhi zi cover: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1qu411o7vj?from=search&seid=4469219661632207981&spm_id_from=333.337.0.0 anyways,,, i actually went back and checked because i was curious. and i finished (FINISHED, not started) writing the translyrics for this song on october 28th, 2021........... literally before I finished writing the translyrics for lonely universe. im in awe of myself how did this take so long (well i know why, i pushed the other songs i was working on to a higher priority bc i wanted to use certain synthvs within a certain time frame. but still!!) the translyrics in particular, it's a bit unsurprising considering theyre quite old at this point but i think i did better with lonely universe than this one. but i still enjoy parts of these! i took a lot of liberties with the translation but i did my best to still make it embody the vibes of the og lyrics, as well as preserving a rhyme scheme or too (and it helps that i actually know rudimentary mandarin vs not knowing any bit of japanese) i'm pretty proud of how ellie sounds. she really did this one's power justice i think, which is something i haven't figured out how to do with other vocal synths so thank you miss ellie for always being there for me to fall back on. i procrastinated the mix and art and video; i think i finished tuning this a solid few months ago. the art and video in particular, since I had absolutely no idea what i wanted to do for the art, but I saw some art by @.RDJlock on twitter and got super inspired. and then another stumbling block was wanting to animate the hair in the way that a lot of chinese vocal synth media does (with the skeletal animation) and i didnt want to open after effects so i did it all in Blender. honestly, it took a while and a fair amount of frustration but i'm really glad i did it, i learned a lot and having that knowledge makes me confident i can do better next time (cuz i know this animation is just. a little bit jank haha) and i'm actually glad i procrastinated the mix until i started using reaper, particularly after i mixed the colors cover, because i learned so much mixing colors and i think my mixing skills have gotten dramatically better. i had like, a GOOD TIME mixing this cover (limiters my beloved, i finally figured you out), which is maybe the first time i can wholeheartedly say that about mixing! and i love how the final product sounds. feeds my hubris to the point that im considering tackling covering a giga song ahaha we'll see how fast that would make me break down i think this maybe marks the third video that i've completed and uploaded within a rough fortnightly schedule? hopefully i can keep this up! this is definitely the last video that started production in 2021, it's all 2022 works from here on out --- #synthv #eleanorforte #vocaloid
