Tale of the Snow Queen feat. Eleanor Forte (and Kasane Teto) Hello friends, first of all, happy new year! For the beginning of this year, I wanted to make something that is unmistakably MiliSen, without any musical self-censorship. I have always been infatuated with Romantic Period operas and other orchestral repertoires, which is why I decided to write a Vocaloid song using the full orchestra, with piano joining in the finale. This song is heavily influenced by the music of my favorite Romantic Era composers such as Verdi, Puccini, Brahms, Wagner, Liszt, Rachmaninov, and of course, my two “oshis,” Chopin and Ravel (though Ravel is in the Impressionist Era). Gradually, this became my most ambitious work so far, as I tried to emulate rubato and other more realistic performance nuances, something that I wasn't bold enough to try in the past. On the composition side, I have snuck in musical references and tributes from some of the composers mentioned above. I chose to write this song for Eleanor Forte as her voice is highly versatile and theatrical, capable of expressing different characters and moods. And in true "Opera Seria" fashion, love and nobility comes at a price… This is my love letter to the Romantic and Impressionist Era. From the Bel canto Italian operas, to the roaring finale of Rachmaninov concertos, to the mystical harmonies and colors of Ravel, all these music had profound impact on me.
